There are lots of events and conferences on the HR calendar and I’m fortunate to attend a fair share of them. But hands down – without a doubt – my absolute favorite event is happening this coming Sunday when a small group of HR pros and Talent Leaders gather in Las Vegas for HRevolution.
I opted out of the inaugural event in 2009 (hey – we had Saints tickets!) but quickly made up for it by journeying to Chicago in April 2010. It was like coming home. “I haven’t been alone in my restlessness.” I remember thinking. “This,” I thought to myself, “is what HR can be.”
The 2013 agenda hits a variety of topics. Among other things (including HR Improv) we’ll have Craig Fisher giving us a “Cool Tools for HR Pros” update and see a session called “What HR Can Learn from the Television Industry” (with some real TV dudes!). We’ll talk about “Gen Y Mythbusters” with Ben Eubanks and Matt Charney and China Gorman will lead us through a discussion when she asks “Is early Adoption in HR’s DNA?”
I’m personally looking forward to participating in a panel discussion along with Trish McFarlane, Linda Jonas, Bill Boorman and Bonni Titgemeyer when we chat about “Taking HR Global.” Although we intend to run our session in unconference format (no power point! audience will steer content/discussion/conversation!) we do have plans to chat about the necessity (or is it?) for Sally HR Manager (**) to think globally. We want to chat about global total rewards and how communication/feedback and performance management differs across cultures. We intend to discuss the how/why/what of the employment experience in US companies located overseas. Plus anything else that comes up.
(**) Sally HR Manager being the typical and traditional HR practitioner who is more than likely a married female in her late 40s with a cat/dog who drives a Honda and has a box of Kleenex and a bowl of Hersey’s Kisses on her desk.
I can’t wait.
The energy and passion unleashed at HRevolution wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of the exclusive event sponsor SumTotal Systems (thanks folks!) and the official tweetup sponsor fisherVISTA (muchas gracias!).
